Former England football icon David Beckham has expressed his long-held ambition to one day manage the England national team. In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, Beckham revealed that coaching the Three Lions is the only managerial role he would seriously consider, and hopes it could become a reality within the next decade.

“The only job I’d ever want in management would be the England job,” said Beckham. “It’s something I’ve always dreamed about. Hopefully, it’s something that could happen in the next 10 years.”

However, Beckham was quick to acknowledge that such a role must be earned, and stressed that he respects the many coaches who have spent years working their way up.

“I wouldn’t want to just walk into the position. That would be unfair to those who have dedicated their careers to coaching,” he added.

Praise for Gareth Southgate’s Leadership Style

During the interview, Beckham took time to praise current England manager Gareth Southgate for his calm and composed approach to leadership, especially in moments of national pressure and disappointment.

“I’ve always admired Gareth’s journey, from his work with the youth teams to becoming the senior team manager,” Beckham said. “He has a calm and unifying presence. During tough times, he brings the nation together.”

Beckham noted that England’s recent consistent performances on the international stage are the result of Southgate’s long-term work with many of the current players from a young age. He also acknowledged Southgate’s upcoming knighthood, calling it a well-deserved honour.

Beckham to Receive Knighthood from King Charles

In a related development, the BBC reports that King Charles III will knight Beckham himself as part of the monarch’s official birthday honours list on June 14. This honour will elevate him to “Sir David Beckham,” recognising both his illustrious football career and his continued contributions to charity and public service.

Back in 2003, Beckham was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), and the knighthood will now mark another milestone in his celebrated life, both on and off the pitch.

David Beckham’s impact on football extends far beyond his playing days. As co-owner of Inter Miami in Major League Soccer and a global ambassador for the sport, Beckham continues to be a prominent figure in world football.

Now, with eyes on a potential future as England’s manager, Beckham’s journey appears far from over.

“Managing England would be more than a dream job, it would be an honour,” he concluded. “I’m not there yet, but if the opportunity ever comes, I’ll be ready.”
