Reflecting on His Journey

During the interview, Salah reflected on his career path, from Chelsea to Fiorentina, Roma, and ultimately Liverpool. His early days at Chelsea were far from smooth, as he struggled for game time under then-manager José Mourinho.

Salah admitted that Mourinho didn’t rate him highly at the time, which led to a challenging phase in his career. However, this setback became a turning point, prompting his move to Serie A, where he revived his career.

“I needed an opportunity to prove myself,” Salah said. “And at Fiorentina and Roma, I was given the platform to do just that.”

High Praise for Spalletti

When asked about the coach he admired the most during his career, Salah didn’t hesitate to name Luciano Spalletti. The two worked together at Roma, and Salah regards that period as pivotal to his development.

“He is the best coach I’ve ever worked with,” Salah stated. “Under Spalletti, I made outstanding progress both tactically and mentally. He trusted me, pushed me, and helped me grow into a more complete player.”

This compliment holds significant weight, especially considering that Salah has also received coaching from world-class names such as Klopp and Mourinho. His strong bond and mutual respect with Spalletti are evident.

Declaring Himself the Greatest African Player Ever

When France Football asked Salah if he considers himself the most outstanding African footballer in history, he confidently responded, “There have been many great African players, George Weah, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o… but if you ask me, yes, I believe I am the greatest.”

Although his statement is bold, it is supported by his achievements.

Since joining Liverpool in 2017, Salah has broken numerous Premier League and Champions League records. He played a key role in helping the Reds win the 2019 Champions League and the 2020 Premier League title.

Individually, he has collected multiple Golden Boots and Player of the Year honors. His consistent top-level performance and decisive moments on the pitch have rightfully earned him a place at the summit of African football.

Most Unforgettable Career Moment

Toward the end of the interview, Salah was asked about the most memorable victory of his career. Without hesitation, he picked the 2019 Champions League final, where Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0.

“That was one of the most beautiful moments of my life,” he said. “We went through so many tough battles to get there. Lifting that trophy, the feeling was indescribable.”
