Ronaldinho first made his mark in Brazil’s youth national teams. In 1997, he helped Brazil win the U-17 World Cup and claimed the Bronze Ball award.

In 1999, he participated in the U-20 South American Youth Championship and the FIFA World Youth Championship, winning both the Golden Ball and Golden Boot in the South American tournament. That same year, he made his senior national team debut and helped Brazil win the Copa América.

During the 2002 FIFA World Cup, at just 22 years old, he became a core midfielder, forming the famous “3R” trio with Rivaldo and Ronaldo.

He scored against China, assisted Rivaldo, and netted a stunning long-range goal against England. Despite his dismissal in the quarterfinals, Brazil managed to secure the title. This tournament became one of the defining peaks of his career.

Peak Years: Club Glory

In 2003, Ronaldinho joined FC Barcelona from Paris Saint-Germain for a fee of around €27 million. His arrival rekindled the club’s glory, garnered the affection of fans, and paved the way for Barça’s comeback.

In 2004 and 2005, Ronaldinho won the FIFA World Player of the Year award twice consecutively. In 2005, he also claimed the Ballon d’Or and UEFA Club Footballer of the Year honors, becoming the most dazzling star in football at the time.

The 2005–2006 season marked the peak of his career. He led Barcelona to both the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League trophy, becoming a key figure in the club’s second-ever European Cup triumph.

Later Career: Serie A and South American Success

He later moved to AC Milan, winning the Serie A title in the 2010–2011 season. However, his form had declined compared to his prime years.

In 2013, he returned to South America, joining Atlético Mineiro. He achieved this by employing a well-known “offside trap trick,” which involved pretending to drink water to entice defenders, and by scoring several impressive goals.

He led the team to the Copa Libertadores title, becoming the seventh player to win both the Champions League and Libertadores. He was also named South American Footballer of the Year.

Ronaldinho became the first player ever to win the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, Copa Libertadores, Ballon d’Or, and FIFA World Player of the Year, a truly unique achievement.
