Manchester United, one of the biggest teams in the Premier League, said on Thursday that goalkeeper André Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan from the Turkish Super Lig.  There is no financing cost and no option to buy in the arrangement.

Trabzonspor Covers Wages, Onana’s Income Doubles

Trabzonspor will pay Onana’s full wage for the season, including bonuses, according to earlier reports. He will make almost twice as much money at the Turkish club as he did at Manchester United.

British news outlets reported that Onana travelled to Paris to visit his wife, Mélanie, and his agency after playing for Cameroon in the World Cup qualifiers. 、

After that, he went to Istanbul for a medical exam and to sign a contract. When he arrived, Trabzonspor fans swarmed him and cheered him on.

Onana: A New Adventure, Feeling At Home

Onana stated, “I’m very happy, really very happy. I’m starting a new project, and this is a whole new adventure for me. I’m really happy to be here.  People around me have never shown me so much, love.  I felt at home right away, and this feeling is just great.”

Weekend Debut Expected, Eager To Repay Fans

Onana is going to play his first game in the Turkish Super Lig this weekend.

He said, “I want to get started as soon as possible and make the fans happy by playing well on the field. Everything went well with all the meetings and talks we had.  The result was perfect, and now I’m here. The whole thing went really quickly.”

United Career Struggles, Last-Minute Exit

In the summer of 2023, the 29-year-old moved from Inter Milan to Manchester United.  He has played for the club 101 times, and his current contract is set to run until 2028.

People often said bad things about how he played at Old Trafford, though. In the League Cup, United were surprisingly knocked out by League Two team Grimsby Town, and Onana was to blame for both goals.

This prompted head coach Amorim to take action, and on the last day of the transfer window, the club signed 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper Rammens and released Onana.

Former Manchester Keepers Face Off Again

This weekend, Manchester United and Manchester City will face off in the Premier League. At the same time, their former first-choice goalkeepers, Onana and Ederson, will play each other 2,700 kilometres apart. Trabzonspor and Ederson’s new team, Fenerbahçe, are both playing in the same round of games.

Onana’s career takes a fresh turn with his loan move to Trabzonspor. This is an opportunity for the Cameroonian goalie to show that he is worthy of trust and respect again. It is unclear whether he will be able to return to his best form in the Turkish league, but supporters will be keeping a close eye on him.
