Real Madrid played Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabéu in the fifth round of the 2025–2026 La Liga season. Militão and Mbappé scored goals that helped Los Blancos win 2-0.
Real Madrid stayed at the top of the table with this win, five points ahead of Barcelona, who have played one game less. They have won all five of their games so far.

Militão’s Stunning Strike Opens the Scoring
Militão got a pass from Valverde outside the penalty area in the 22nd minute of the first half. After making a small change, he hit a powerful long-range shot that went straight into the net, giving Real Madrid the lead.
Mbappé Doubles the Lead
Real Madrid scored again less than two minutes into the second half. Vinícius broke into the box from the left and cut the ball back. Mbappé met it right away and hit a great shot that made it 2-0.
Real Madrid continued to create chances to widen the gap. Vinícius’ shot from close range in the 66th minute hit the post, so he didn’t get a goal.

Alonso Praises Mbappé’s Performance
Xabi Alonso, the head coach of Real Madrid, praised Mbappé after the game, saying,
“Today, he played a different role, almost like a playmaker. When the opposition goalkeeper played long, that numerical advantage was significant. ”
“Mbappé understands football very well, and in a different position today, he did an excellent job.”

Bellingham And Camavinga Return From Injury
Bellingham and Camavinga, two stars who had been out for a long time, both came off the bench at the end of the game, marking their official return.
Espanyol, on the other hand, lost for the first time this season and fell to fourth place behind Barcelona and Villarreal.
