In Matchweek 10 of the Premier League, Manchester City defeated Bournemouth 3–1 at home, with Norwegian striker Erling Haaland scoring twice to lead his team to victory.

After this win, City now have 19 points from six wins, one draw, and three losses, moving up to second in the league table, six points behind leaders Arsenal. Bournemouth, on the other hand, slipped from second to fourth.

Haaland Shines as Cherki Provides Two Assists

Just one minute into the game, Bournemouth threatened early when Krupi’s close-range finish found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

In the 17th minute, recently recovered French midfielder Rayan Cherki headed the ball forward through the middle, allowing Haaland to sprint into the box and calmly slot home, giving City a 1–0 lead.

At the 26th minute mark, Bournemouth pressed high up the pitch, forcing an error from goalkeeper Donnarumma. Tyler Adams capitalised on the mistake to level the score at 1–1.

In the 33rd minute, Cherki delivered another precise through ball, and Haaland once again broke through the defence, beating the goalkeeper one-on-one to make it 2–1 with his second goal of the match.

After the break, in the 60th minute, Phil Foden assisted O’Riley, who converted with composure to extend the lead to 3–1. Manchester City then controlled the game to secure all three points.

Guardiola Praises Haaland: As Influential as Messi and Ronaldo

After the match, head coach Pep Guardiola was full of praise for Haaland, even comparing his influence to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

“Bournemouth played really well, but we have Haaland,” Guardiola said. “He makes the difference at crucial moments; his impact is just like Messi and Ronaldo.”

Haaland now leads the Premier League scoring chart with 13 goals and shares the top spot across Europe’s top five leagues with Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé. He has scored 98 goals in the Premier League so far and needs only two more to reach the 100-goal milestone.

Cherki also delivered an outstanding performance with two assists, making him the only player in Europe’s top five leagues this year to record five matches with two assists each. 

Guardiola commended his creativity: “Cherki’s vision in the final third is exceptional. He’s very talented and has great chemistry with our forwards.”

Right before halftime, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross led to an own goal by Sven Botman, putting West Ham 2–1 ahead. Late in the game, Jarrod Bowen’s shot was saved by Nick Pope, but Tomáš Souček reacted quickly to score on the rebound, sealing the 3–1 victory for the Hammers.
