The 2024/25 La Liga season has officially wrapped up, and Barcelona have signed off in style. A commanding 3–0 away win over Athletic Bilbao secured their 28th league title and completed a historic domestic treble, adding the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup to their trophy cabinet.
Lewandowski Hits 100 for Barça as Attack Shines

Barcelona’s final season match saw Robert Lewandowski again steal the spotlight, scoring twice in the first half before Dani Olmo converted a late penalty to seal the win. The Catalan giants finished the campaign with 88 points, comfortably ahead of their rivals at the top of the table.
Statistically, it was one of the club’s most dominant attacking seasons ever. Barça netted 174 goals across all competitions (third-most in club history), including 102 in La Liga, marking the ninth time they’ve surpassed 100 goals in a single league season.
For Lewandowski, the match was also a personal milestone. His brace took his Barcelona tally to 101 goals in all competitions, making him one of the rare players to score over 100 goals at three different European giants, following his time at Borussia Dortmund (103) and Bayern Munich (344).
Real Madrid Fall Short, But Mbappé Makes His Mark
Despite winning both the Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup this season, Real Madrid fell short in the league title race with 84 points, finishing second behind Barça. However, their new superstar, Kylian Mbappé, made an instant impact in his debut La Liga campaign.

The Frenchman bagged two goals in the final round to finish the season with 31 league goals, earning him the La Liga Golden Boot. Even more impressively, he overtook Viktor Gyökeres (Sporting CP, 58.5 points) to win his first European Golden Shoe with a final score of 62 points, a massive statement in his first season at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Joining Barcelona and Real Madrid in next season’s UEFA Champions League are Atlético Madrid (76 points), Athletic Bilbao, and Villarreal (both 70 points). Real Betis (60 points) and Celta Vigo (55 points) have secured Europa League football, while Rayo Vallecano (52 points) are set to compete in the Europa Conference League.
Celta Vigo’s Rise and Rayo’s Return to Europe

Celta Vigo’s 2–1 away win at Catalonia in the final round capped a brilliant season. The Galician side is back in European competition for the first time since reaching the Europa League semifinals in 2016/17. Their 37-year-old coach, Claudio Giráldez, in his first full season in charge, called it “a beautiful experience” and praised his players for delivering a textbook season.
Meanwhile, Rayo Vallecano are back in Europe for the first time since 2000/01. Despite a goalless draw against Mallorca, they edged out Osasuna for the Conference League spot on head-to-head record after both teams finished level on points. However, there’s still a twist to come. If Real Betis wins the Europa Conference League, Osasuna could be promoted to the League, and Rayo would move up to the Europa League.
Heartbreak at the Bottom: Leganés One and Done

The relegation battle went down to the wire. Leganés, last season’s Segunda División champions, claimed a 3–0 win in their final game against already-doomed Fuenlabrada. But Espanyol’s 2–0 victory over Las Palmas sealed Leganés’ fate, sending them straight back to the second division after just one season in the top flight.
Also going down are Las Palmas and Faradolid. In contrast, Levante, crowned champions of the Segunda División with 76 points, are returning to La Liga next season. The final automatic promotion spot will be decided in the last round, with Elche (74 points), Real Oviedo, and Mirandés (both on 72 points) still in the hunt. Next season’s final La Liga spot will be decided via a four-team playoff.
The 2024/25 La Liga season delivered everything, from Barcelona’s domestic domination and Lewandowski’s record-breaking feats to Mbappé’s explosive start in Spain and dramatic battles for European spots and survival. With fresh faces, rising stars, and new narratives on the horizon, Spanish football fans can already start counting down to what promises to be another thrilling campaign.
