Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has officially put an end to speculation about a potential move to Saudi Arabia. Despite receiving a staggering £200 million offer from Al Hilal, the Portuguese midfielder has chosen loyalty over riches, confirming he will stay at Old Trafford.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Portugal’s Nations League semifinal against Germany, Fernandes clarified the rumours and delivered a firm message about his future.
“Yes, the opportunity was there,” Bruno admitted. “The president of Al Hilal called me about a month ago. They made it clear they wanted me and were waiting for my decision.”
“But I spoke with our manager, Ruben Amorim. He didn’t want me to go. Manchester United also had no interest in selling me, and they don’t need the money. Of course, if I had insisted on leaving, they would have respected that. But money was never part of the conversation.”
Choosing Glory Over Comfort

Bruno explained that while Al Hilal’s offer was genuine and tempting, he still sees himself competing at the top level.
“I know many of the Portuguese players at Al Hilal, and it would’ve been an easy life. But I still want to compete at the highest level, chase major trophies, and test myself against the best. I still believe I can do that, I’m still passionate about football and hungry for success.”
Fernandes’ statement immediately sparked a reaction from Manchester United, who posted a simple tribute on social media: “Our captain.”
A Key Player for United

The 30-year-old playmaker enjoyed another strong season for United, scoring 19 goals across 53 appearances in all competitions. Despite the club’s struggles, including a Europa League final loss, Fernandes remained one of the few consistent performers.
Following the defeat, he openly acknowledged the possibility of leaving if it helped the club financially, a gesture that underscored his loyalty and sense of responsibility. But with Amorim now at the helm and a new era underway, Fernandes has reaffirmed his commitment to the Red Devils.

Fernandes signed a contract extension with United in August last year, tying him to the club until 2027, with an option for an additional year. His long-term deal, coupled with his vocal support for Amorim and ambition to win top titles, signals he’s ready to lead United into their next chapter.
As the club prepares for another rebuild, keeping their captain and creative engine might be the most crucial victory of the summer.
