From Underdogs to Champions

Chelsea’s path to the final was far from smooth. In the group stage, they suffered a 1-3 upset loss to Brazilian side Flamengo and only progressed as runners-up. Given their shaky start, few believed they could go all the way.

With pre-final predictions heavily favouring PSG, Chelsea silenced the doubters with a commanding display on the biggest stage.

Palmer Shines with One Goal and Two Assists

PSG appeared to be a diminished version of the team that had dominated previous rounds, struggling with both their attack and defense.

Chelsea capitalized early, in the 9th minute, when Cole Palmer’s curling effort narrowly missed the post. Meanwhile, PSG’s Doue squandered two golden opportunities.

In the 22nd minute, Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sánchez launched a long pass down the right flank to Gusto, whose cross found Palmer in the middle. Palmer calmly slotted the ball into the far corner to open the scoring.

Just eight minutes later, Chelsea broke again after winning possession. Levi Colwill delivered a pinpoint pass to Palmer, who cut inside past Beraldo and netted his second with a low left-footed strike to make it 2-0.

In the 43rd minute, Palmer led another Chelsea charge and threaded a precise through ball to João Pedro, who made it 3-0 with a composed finish. Palmer, with one goal and two assists, was undoubtedly Chelsea’s player of the match.

PSG attempted a fightback in the second half with efforts from Kvaratskhelia, Dembélé, and Vitinha, but none could breach Sánchez’s goal.

Things worsened in the 85th minute when João Neves was shown a red card for pulling Cucurella’s hair, leaving PSG with ten men and no hope of a comeback.
