Following a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, marked by a poor league run and a Europa League final defeat, Manchester United have officially kicked off what looks to be a significant squad rebuild.
Nine Players Set to Leave as Man United Announce Retained List

On Monday, Manchester United released their retained list, confirming that nine players will leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of June. Among the most notable departures are senior figures Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, and Victor Lindelöf.

The club also announced the exits of six academy players: Hubert Graczyk, Jack Kingdon, Sam Murray, Tom Myles, James Nolan, and Kie Plumley. While these youngsters failed to break into the first team, United wished them well in their next chapter, stating they will “always carry the mark of a Red Devil.”
Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton remains in negotiations with the club over a potential contract extension, but progress has stalled. He’s also been included on the free agents list for now.
Rashford, Sancho, Antony Among Names on Potential Sale List

The outgoing wave may not stop there. United are reportedly open to selling several senior squad members this summer to fund new signings and reshape the team. Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and even young striker Rasmus Højlund are said to be on the list of potential departures.
However, as insiders point out, United’s recent track record in selling players hasn’t been strong, so it may take time to move on from some of these big earners.
Mbeumo Identified as Key Transfer Target

As players exit, United are also actively working to bring in new talent. One of their top targets is Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo. Talks have already begun between the two clubs, though United’s opening £55 million bid was reportedly rejected.
Mbeumo enjoyed a breakout season in the Premier League, scoring 20 goals and providing 7 assists, ranking just behind Mohamed Salah and Alexander Isak in total goal involvements. His pace, versatility, and direct attacking style have impressed United scouts, who believe he could add the kind of spark and penetration the team lacked last season.
Interestingly, Mbeumo is known to have supported Manchester United as a child, idolising Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite the club’s failure to qualify for European competition next season, he remains keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s summer overhaul marks both a farewell to familiar faces and a fresh start under Erik ten Hag’s ongoing project. If they can successfully offload underperforming players and land key targets like Mbeumo, United could be poised for a revitalised push in the 2025/26 season. The rebuilding process may not be quick, but the intent is clear: reset, retool, and return to the top.
