According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer. The club is expected to offload up to eight players, potentially generating over £100 million in transfer revenue while freeing up significant wages to support new signings and a tactical rebuild.

From a competitive standpoint, United currently sit third in the Premier League and are in a crucial phase of securing qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Qualification would not only boost the club’s global profile but also deliver substantial financial rewards.

Historically, participation in the group stage alone can earn around £16 million, while progressing to the knockout rounds can push total earnings beyond £40 million.

As such, balancing sporting success with financial efficiency has made squad trimming and restructuring a top priority for the club’s management.

5 Transfers, 3 Free Exits: Core Clear-Out List Takes Shape

Among the eight players set to leave, five are expected to depart via permanent transfers, while three will leave as free agents upon contract expiry.

The future of Marcus Rashford remains a major talking point. Currently on loan at Barcelona, the Spanish side holds a £26 million option to buy. Barcelona is keen to keep him, but negotiations over the final fee are ongoing. United, however, is unwilling to lower its asking price and has no plans to reintegrate him into the squad.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund is on loan at Napoli. If Napoli secures Champions League qualification, a £38 million purchase clause will be triggered. Based on current standings, the deal is highly likely to go through.

In addition, Ugarte and Zirkzee have struggled for form and minutes this season, placing them firmly on the exit list.

In goal, with the new signing Rams performing well, the on-loan André Onana has lost any realistic chance of reclaiming a starting spot. Several European clubs have shown interest, and United are keen to capitalize financially on his departure.
