According to CaughtOffside, Manchester United are preparing for a significant revamp in the goalkeeper department following a disastrous 2024/25 season.

The Red Devils finished a shocking 15th in the Premier League, marking the club’s worst league position in modern history.

In response, new manager Rúben Amorim and the club’s senior management have placed upgrading the goalkeeper position at the top of their summer transfer agenda, hoping to restore defensive stability and rebuild the team’s foundations.

UFOOTBALL ONANA

Onana Under Fire and Officially Listed for Transfer

Since arriving at Old Trafford, Cameroonian goalkeeper André Onana has endured a turbulent spell. Despite high expectations, his tenure has been marred by inconsistent performances and high-profile errors, many of which directly contributed to the team’s poor results.

As a result, Manchester United has now officially made Onana available for transfer. The club has reportedly set an asking price between £35 million and £40 million and is open to negotiating with interested parties.

Several clubs, including Ligue 1 side AS Monaco and multiple teams from the Saudi Pro League, have already expressed interest in securing his services.

However, the outcome remains uncertain, as Onana’s stance on a move away from the Premier League will play a crucial role in determining whether a deal can be completed.

UFOOTBALL DONNARUMMA MANCHESTER

Donnarumma’s Contract Dispute Triggers Premier League Interest

One of United’s top replacement targets is Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The Italian international, once considered the brightest goalkeeping talent in Europe, is reportedly unhappy with PSG’s proposed contract terms. The new deal is believed to include a reduction in fixed wages and an increased focus on performance-based bonuses.

Although Donnarumma has expressed a desire to remain in Paris, his dissatisfaction has not gone unnoticed. Manchester United and Manchester City are closely monitoring Donnarumma’s situation, prepared to intervene if the contract negotiations fail or if PSG contemplates a sale.

UFOOTBALL COSTA

Portuguese Star Diogo Costa Also On United’s Radar

Another strong contender for United’s No. 1 spot is Diogo Costa, the 25-year-old captain and goalkeeper of FC Porto. Known for his exceptional shot-stopping, calm demeanor, and modern distribution skills, Costa has earned a reputation as one of Europe’s most well-rounded goalkeepers.

His contract reportedly includes a release clause between £50 million and £60 million. Manchester United scouts have frequently attended Porto matches over the past year to evaluate his performances, signaling serious intent closely.

UFOOTBALL COSTA MANCHESTER

Onana’s Departure Crucial for Goalkeeper Reinforcement

Despite having identified their preferred targets, Manchester United’s ability to make a move hinges on one key condition: the successful sale of Onana.

Club executives are well aware of the need to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. Offloading Onana would create room in the wage structure and provide vital funds for reinvestment. Without his departure, it will be challenging for United to pursue top-tier goalkeeping talent, such as Donnarumma or Costa.
