According to renowned transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are seriously considering a move for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, but only if the Magpies show a willingness to sell.

Romano revealed on social media:

“I’m told Liverpool still sees Alexander Isak as a top target after signing Hugo Ekitiké. It now depends on Newcastle. If they’re open to selling, Liverpool will be ready to make a bid within the next 10 days.”

He also added that despite speculation, there have been no concrete talks between Isak and the Saudi side Al Hilal, leaving the door wide open for Liverpool to make their move.

Sources suggest Liverpool’s pursuit of Isak is directly tied to the potential departure of Colombian winger Luis Díaz. Should Díaz be sold in this transfer window, the Reds are prepared to move swiftly and submit a formal offer for the Swedish forward.

Isak is coming off a sensational 2023/24 season with Newcastle, where he scored 27 goals and provided 6 assists in 42 appearances, the best numbers of his professional career. Known for his pace, clinical finishing, and ability to lead the line or drift wide, the 24-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attackers.

His market value has soared as a result. According to Transfermarkt, Isak is currently valued at €120 million, reflecting his importance to Newcastle and the steep price any suitor would have to pay.

Under new head coach Arne Slot, Liverpool are beginning to reshape their squad for the post-Klopp era. The recent signing of Hugo Ekitiké suggests that the Reds are already reinforcing their forward options, and Isak could be the next major piece if Díaz were to move on.

That said, signing Isak won’t be easy. Newcastle is under financial scrutiny due to Premier League spending regulations, but it is not under immediate pressure to sell. Liverpool would need to present a convincing offer, both financially and in terms of player ambition, to pry Isak away from St. James’ Park.

With the start of the new season fast approaching, the next 10 days could prove decisive in determining whether Liverpool goes all-in for the Swedish star.
