Liverpool, the Premier League winners, have officially purchased Swedish attacker Alexander Isak from Newcastle for £130 million. This is the most money ever paid for a player in the Premier League.
This is the second time Liverpool has set the league’s transfer record this summer. The Reds paid £116 million to sign German international Florian Wirtz in June. This deal makes Isak the most expensive player to sign this summer.

Newcastle’s Statement And The Signing That Followed
Newcastle United said, “Newcastle has sold Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a fee that breaks the Premier League transfer record.”
Isak arrived in Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 and played in 109 games across all competitions. Newcastle also said they had signed Yoane Wissa, a forward from Brentford.

Isak’s Career
The 25-year-old forward has previously played for AIK Solna, Borussia Dortmund, Willem II, Real Sociedad, and Newcastle.
He played in 42 games for Newcastle last season, scoring 27 goals and setting up six others. He will now wear the famous No. 9 shirt for Liverpool.
Isak replied, “I feel great when asked about joining Liverpool. It’s been a long road. I’m thrilled and proud to be a member of Liverpool, and I’m looking forward to the upcoming games.”
When asked why he chose Liverpool, Isak said, “Liverpool is a club with a long history and strong traditions. I want to make history with this team and win trophies with them. That is what drives me the most.”

Excited to Play with the Reds’ Best Players
Isak said he was excited to play with top strikers like Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike, and Florian Wirtz. He also said, “I can’t wait to meet the fans and my teammates.”
A Complicated Process For Moving
Liverpool made their first move in July when they officially contacted Isak, who also informed Newcastle that he wanted to join. He even missed training and games to facilitate the move.
Newcastle turned down Liverpool’s first offer of £110 million plus extras in early August. However, as the transfer deadline drew closer, Liverpool increased their offer to £125 million, and the two teams finally reached an agreement.

Liverpool’s attack has become significantly stronger since Isak joined the team. Fans of the Reds are hoping that the Swedish striker will continue his fantastic form from Newcastle and help the squad perform better in both the Premier League and the Champions League this season.
