In the 14th minute, Gyökeres broke through one-on-one and collided with Pope inside the penalty area. The referee initially awarded a penalty, but after a VAR review, it was confirmed that Pope got to the ball first, and the decision was overturned.
Völltmard’s Header Puts Newcastle Ahead
Despite dominating possession, Arsenal fell behind in the 34th minute. From a tactical corner, Sandro Tonali delivered a cross from the left, and Völltmard rose highest in the box to head the ball into the net, giving Newcastle a 1-0 lead at halftime.
Arsenal continued to press hard in the second half, and in the 84th minute, Declan Rice sent in a precise cross from the left. Merino met it with a deft header at the near post, finding the bottom corner to level the score at 1-1.

Gabriel’s Stoppage-Time Header Seals the Win
In the 96th minute of stoppage time, Arsenal won a corner. Martin Ødegaard swung the ball into the box, and Gabriel, rising above the defenders, powered home a header to complete the comeback. Arsenal ultimately secured a dramatic 2-1 victory.
