Amorim’s First Anniversary Match: United Aim to Extend Unbeaten Run

Manchester United will host Everton at Old Trafford in Matchweek 12 of the Premier League. This fixture marks manager Rúben Amorim’s first anniversary in charge of the club.

In recent weeks, United’s form has improved significantly, going six matches unbeaten, and the team hopes to extend this momentum on home ground further.

Although United are only one point away from the top four and still have room to climb in the standings, the squad is facing several challenges. Bryan Mbeumo has been in outstanding form, scoring four goals in his last four league matches and becoming a key figure in the team’s resurgence.

However, a wave of injuries among United’s leading players is posing a significant test for Amorim’s tactical planning.

United’s Injury Concerns Continue

Amorim revealed on Friday that forward Benjamin Šeško will be sidelined for several weeks due to a knee injury. The Slovenian striker picked up the injury in the last match before the international break, a 2–2 draw against Tottenham. His absence has dealt a significant blow to United’s attacking rotation.

In addition to Šeško, defensive mainstay Harry Maguire is still unavailable, while rising midfield talent Kobbie Mainoo missed Friday’s training session, leaving his availability for the upcoming match uncertain.

Amorim stressed that Šeško’s injury is not serious and expects the Slovenian to recover after a few weeks of rest.

“Maguire won’t be able to return too soon. As for Mainoo, we hope he improves within the next couple of days. I hope Šeško can return before Mbeumo and Diallo leave for the Africa Cup of Nations on the 21st of next month. ”

“We are currently in discussions with both Mbeumo and Diallo, trying to delay their departure for AFCON, as they would otherwise miss several key matches during the Christmas period.”

Everton’s Away Struggles and Poor Record Against United

Everton may have ended their three-match winless run with a 2–0 victory over Fulham last week, but their away form remains worrying. In their previous four away games, they have recorded only one draw, losing the other three.

United holds a Strong Home Advantage

Adding to Everton fans’ concerns, their team has lost all four of its last visits to Old Trafford. Across the previous 10 encounters between the two sides, United hold a dominant record with six wins, three draws, and just one defeat.

Currently sitting 13th in the Premier League table, Everton relies heavily on Ryan Diaye for attacking output. Meanwhile, the injury of key defender Jarrad Branthwaite further weakens their defensive structure.

Amorim Must Find Balance Amid Injury Crisis

United, on the other hand, have secured four consecutive home wins and will enter the match with higher morale. Captain Bruno Fernandes and Mbeumo are expected to lead the attack, while Amorim must find ways to maintain balance in a squad affected by injuries.

Overall, based on current form, head-to-head history, and home advantage, Manchester United is the stronger side heading into this match.

However, with injury concerns and a congested schedule, Amorim’s tactical choices will be crucial and could determine the game’s direction.
