Inter Milan lost at home in the second round of Serie A, which was a big surprise! Even though they were ahead, they lost to Udinese 2–1. This loss was not only their first of the season but also their first home loss to Udinese in eight years.
Inter had a great start to the season, beating Torino 5–0 in their first game. But in the next round against Udinese, things changed quickly.
Dimarco crossed the ball from the left just 17 minutes into the game. Thuram cleverly flicked it into the box, and Dumfries calmly finished to give Inter the lead.
Udinese Quickly Changed the Course of the Game
But their lead didn’t last long. Bertola’s header hit Dumfries’ arm in the penalty area in the 26th minute. The referee awarded a penalty after consulting the VAR. Keinan Davis scored from the penalty spot to tie the game for Udinese.
Then, in the 40th minute, Atta fired a powerful shot from outside the box that went straight into the top corner, putting Udinese up 2–1.
Inter Milan Couldn’t Get the Equalizer
In the second half, in the 56th minute, Dimarco scored a great long-range goal. After another VAR check, though, the referee said that Thuram had been offside in the buildup, so the goal was not allowed.
Inter continued to press forward and created numerous chances. Goalkeeper Silvestri made an amazing save on Bisseck’s close-range shot, and Zielinski’s shots in stoppage time were blocked.
In the end, Inter couldn’t change the score and lost at home to Udinese, which was their first loss to this team in eight years.
A Hard Challenge Ahead
Inter will have a tough time in the next round when they travel to face Juventus under the guidance of coach Chivu.
In their second-round match, the Bianconeri beat Genoa 1–0 thanks to a header from Vlahović. This was their second win in a row.
Along with defending champions Napoli, newly promoted Cremonese, and Roma, they are now tied for sixth place with 6 points. Juventus and Napoli are tied for first place in the table with a goal difference of 3.
This round of Serie A not only hurt Inter Milan in a way they didn’t expect, but it also made the race at the top of the league more interesting.
